1. Initial consultation
During your initial consultation, we’ll find out your requirements in more detail. Throughout this process, you’ll receive all the information you need to understand how our EV ChargePoint solution will cater to your needs, and how we can support you. However, we won’t just find out everything we need to know about your requirements; we will also give you all the information you need to decide on the right course of action, offering our advice and expertise. Whether you need a workplace EV installation, or you want to learn more about EV chargers for businesses, we’ll tailor our advice to your unique requirements. And, if you’re interested in having a back-office management system installed, we’ll discuss available grants with you, and answer any questions you may have.
2. Site survey
After we have completed the Initial Consultation, we will arrange to come and visit your site to assess the electrical systems, and to see whether any civil engineering work needs to be carried out, at a time agreed by you. At this stage, we will also discuss the options available for different hardware and advise on the grants you’re eligible to take advantage of.
3. Quotation
Following the site survey, we’ll review the information we’ve gathered, specify the materials we need for the installation, and receive quotes for the appropriate hardware, always keeping you in the loop. Once we’ve gathered everything we need, we’ll send it over to you for review.
4. Installation
We’re able to provide a complete turnkey installation service, starting with civil construction and groundworks. Civil construction and groundworks in EV charging projects is, at its core, about getting from point a to point b in the installation process. Whether that’s a car park or a walkway, our specialists expertly enable the installation of electric cable by burying it in subterranean chambers and pipework. This process involves installing concrete plinths to mount the EV chargers on, backfilling and re-laying down the cable ducting. Following this, our team of electricians will take over, installing all the relevant cabling, and utilising the groundworks that have been installed. All connections to the charging point and current electrical infrastructure will then be terminated. Once this is complete, the infrastructure will be re-energised, and all inspection and testing will be completed, finalising this stage. Our highly qualified and accredited installation teams will then complete the installation of the charging points and walk you through the operation of the chargers.
5. Service and maintenance
We want to make sure that your EV charging infrastructure remains in the best possible condition for as long as you want them. As part of our complete EV Installation service offering, we can offer long term service and maintenance. We’ll conduct periodic inspections of your EV charger installations, making sure they’re kept in top working order and, most importantly, are safe for you, your team, and your customers to use.

FAQs
What are the different types of elective vehicles?
+
An electric vehicle (EV) is a type of car that either partially or fully relies on electricity to charge it, including:
- Battery Electric (BEV) cars are fully electric, meaning the only source of power is a rechargeable battery, ideally, powered at a specially fitted EV charge point
- Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) cars are vehicles that contain a petrol or diesel-powered engine and a medium-sized electric battery which is where the term ‘plug-in’ comes from.
What are the different types of electric vehicle chargers?
+
The UK is ramping up its charging infrastructure to help meet current and predicted demand while also keeping businesses and organisations legally compliant. Currently, there are three main types of EV chargers, categorised by the speed with which they can charge a car:
- Rapid and ultra-rapid chargers. These are the fastest way to charge an EV. Often found at motorway services or locations close to main routes, you will be able to charge an electric car to 80% in 10-15 minutes depending on the model.
- Fast chargers. These chargers are typically found in places where you’ll probably be parked for an hour or longer, such as car parks, supermarkets, or leisure centres. Charging times vary on unit speed and the vehicle; for example, a 7-kW charger will recharge a compatible EV with a 40-kWh battery in 4-6 hours and a 22-kW charger in 1-2 hours.
- Slow chargers. Most commonly used for home charging where you can leave it on overnight, charging times vary depending on the charging unit and EV model, but a full charge on a 3-kW unit will typically take anywhere between 6-12 hours.
What funding is available to support with having an EV Charge Installation Point installed?
+
There are several funding options available to help you install EV Charging Infrastructure, including:
- The EV ChargePoint grant, which provides funding of up to 75% towards the cost of installing EV smart ChargePoint’s at domestic properties across the UK.
- The EV Infrastructure grant, which covers small to medium sized UK businesses and offers up to 75% off the cost of installing infrastructure in the workplace.
- The Workplace Charging Scheme, which is used by eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations to offset the upfront cost of the purchase and installation of workplace EV installations.
Is planning permission needed to install an EV Charger?
+
Each site is unique. This is why we carry out an initial site survey to see if planning permission will be needed. When planning a commercial EV charging project, needing planning permission is a rarity, but may be more common for domestic sites.
Does an EV Charge Point installation require three-phase?
+
Whether your EV Charger Installations need a single phase or three-phase supply depends entirely on the infrastructure, capacity, and needs of the site.
For example, if you wanted a rapid charger to be installed, this can only be completed on sites with a three-phase supply. Occasionally, sites that only have a single-phase power outage can only have single phase chargers installed. All of this and more will be discussed during your site survey.
Once installed, do I need to maintain or service my Charge Point?
+
While ongoing maintenance and servicing of a charge point isn’t currently required in EV legislation, we highly recommend you do so.
We advise that all charge points receive a yearly site visit to undertake the visual inspection and testing of all electric vehicle infrastructure. And, even better, this is in line with current Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs), which adheres to BS: 7671 and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
Our Maintenance and Servicing inspection includes:
- Visual Inspection of Charger and any associated cables
- Load Test
- Socket Test
- Functional RCD test
- RCD Testing x 5
- Zs Readings
- Polarity
- Phase Commission Detail
While it’s not a legal requirement to have your EV Charging infrastructure installed, adhering to the relevant regulations is. At the BES Group, we’ll shoulder the burden. We’ll take care of all inspections, reminding you when you can expect us in plenty of time, with no fuss.
Do I need to buy my own Charge Point, or will you provide this for me?
+
We will take care of this for you. As part of our service, we will provide an initial consultation and site survey to determine your requirements, to make sure we provide the best solution for you. Whether you’re ready to embark on a commercial EV charging project, or want to upgrade your workplace EV installation, we’re proud to say we work with prominent manufacturers of EV Chargers, so we’ll make sure you’ll get the right charger for you.
